COLLEGE STATION, Texas — On Thursday, a College Station High School student received a select gift that only 400 other students across the nation have been selected for: a scholarship from Amazon.
Cynthia Zhao was selected as an Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship winner, and was awarded up to a $40,000 scholarship to the school of her choice to pursue computer science, engineering or a related degree.
“Congratulations to Cynthia! She is a dedicated student that has always made academics a high priority,” said Kimberly Munoz, career & technology teacher at College Station High School. “Her kindness, curiosity and problem-solving skills are exactly what we need in future engineers! I can't wait to see where this opportunity takes her!”
According to a press release from Amazon, the 400 students that were chosen were selected on a number of criteria, including their "academic achievement, leadership, participation in school and community activities, future goals, and financial need."
