COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Today, during a coronavirus press conference, Gov. Greg Abbott announced plans to reopen the Texas economy, but stated that Texas schools are to be closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.
Mike Martindale, CSISD Interim Superintendent of Schools, said that although everyone misses their students, they are optimistic about finishing the school year strong with their at-home learning model.
Bryan ISD's Superintendent Dr. Christie Whitbeck and Brenham ISD's Superintendent Dr. Walter Jackson had similar positive sentiments, with Dr. Whitbeck telling parents "While this is disappointing, because more than anything we wanted to see our students back in their classrooms this year, I hope this measure will allow our community to overcome this virus and heal so we can start the next school year as normal in August".
CSISD and BISD are also looking for feedback from its district's families to hear how the at-home model is working for them.
"While we do have a plan in place to finish the school year, we would like your feedback to hear how the plan fits the needs of your family," said Martindale.
Both school districts will have surveys to understand the needs of their students in order to better serve them during these unprecedented times.
