HEARNE, Texas — A juvenile has been arrested in Bryan after the Hearne Police Department became aware of threats made to commit a shooting in Hearne ISD.
The district released a statement on social media early Thursday morning before classes were expected to begin, informing the community of an 'ongoing investigation' into a potential threat to Hearne High School.
"The safety and well-being of our students and staff are our top priorities," wrote Superintendent of Schools Dr. Johnson.
Johnson clarified that the cancelation of class is a precautionary measure as the school is working with law enforcement to learn more information into the threat.
As police investigated the threat, they learned that the juvenile made comments about using chemicals and explosives to blow up a school in addition to the shooting. A search warrant was executed at the juvenile's home in the 15000 block of Old Hearne Road in Bryan, and the suspect was taken into custody. Ammo was found during the search warrant.
The juvenile is in custody for Felony Terroristic Threat, according to Hearne PD.
"The Hearne Police Department wants to make it clear that we will investigate the legitimacy of any threat to our school district, and we will take you into custody if deemed necessary," the police department said in a Facebook post Thursday morning.
This news is the latest in school districts around the state and county have had to deal with several threats being made. Just recently in Bryan, a student was arrested Wednesday after being found with a gun in school and is now facing a terroristic threat charge.
