CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Three South Carolina bars will now pay more than $800,000 to a man after his new wife was killed just hours after their wedding.
Samantha Miller died on April 28, 2023, when a drunk driver rear-ended the golf cart she was riding in along with her husband, Aric Hutchinson, and two family members. Hutchinson sued the bars that served the driver, Jamie Komoroski, whose blood-alcohol content was three times the legal limit at the time of the crash.
The other lawsuits are still pending, including one against Komoroski, who was released from jail earlier this year. She was facing multiple charges related to the wreck, including reckless homicide.
The couple was leaving their wedding reception in Folly Beach on a golf cart when they were hit. Police said Komoroski was traveling 65 mph when she slammed into the golf cart. She was found to have a blood alcohol content level three times above the legal limit at the scene. Miller died from her injuries. Hutchinson suffered two broken legs, multiple broken bones in his face and brain injuries.
