GRIMES COUNTY, Texas — A man was sentenced to 25 years in prison on Monday for drug crimes committed in Navasota and northern Grimes County in 2023, according to the Grimes County District Attorney's Office.
On April 6, 2023, Ronnie Zephyn began to evade an officer while driving in Navasota after the officer attempted to pull him over. Zephyn would later come to a stop at a Dollar General, where he was arrested for evading police. A later search of his car yielded 10.72 grams of methamphetamine, which he was also charged for.
Later that year, on Dec. 30, 2023, Zephyn was once again arrested in northern Grimes County for having methamphetamine in his possession. At the time of his arrest, he was out on bond, according to the District Attorney's Office.
Zephyn, currently 58, received his 25-year sentence in a plea agreement. According to the DA's office, because of his extensive criminal history, he would face a "habitual punishment range" under Texas law.
"Ronnie Zephyn is another drug dealer being removed from our community because of good police work," said District Attorney Andria Bender. "Illegal drug distribution has a nexus to almost every other type of crime, especially violent crimes. That is why our office does everything we can to send drug dealers to prison!"
