Police say the student was arrested Monday evening and has been charged with making a terroristic threat.

NAVASOTA, Texas — Editor's Note: The attached video aired on Sept. 13.

A student was arrested Monday evening after a threat made on social media was reported to Navasota ISD officials and the Navasota Police Department.

According to a release sent to 6 News, the district became aware of the threat that was made towards another student that day and began an investigation alongside Navasota Police Department School Resource Officers. They discovered the individual that made the threat was a juvenile high school student and arrested them.

Police say the student suspected of the threat is being charged with terroristic threat and they are working with the Grimes County District Attorney and County Attorney Offices to ensure others that make such threats towards a school, student, or school faculty face the consequences.

The district noted in a press release Tuesday afternoon that the threat made on social media from one student to the other did not involve or mention the school, and no weapons were found while authorities were investigating the threat.

"The situation was promptly addressed, and appropriate measures were taken to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone on campus," the district said in a press release. "The district takes all threats seriously and remains committed to maintaining a secure learning environment for all students and staff. We want to assure our community that all students are safe and that no weapon was found during the investigation."

Both Navasota ISD and Navasota PD encourage parents to talk to and educate their children on the repercussions of making threats towards others, both online and in-person. Those that do see or hear about any potential threats are advised to report it to a School Resource Officer, the Navasota Police Department, or the Grimes County Crime Stoppers tipline.

The Navasota Police Department can be reached by calling 936-825-6410 and the Grimes County Crime Stoppers tipline can be reached by calling 936-873-2000.
