Two juveniles charged with state jail felonies for social media threats in Navasota

The two are being charged with False Alarm or Report, a state jail felony. The Navasota Police Department say other individuals may be charged at a later date.

NAVASOTA, Texas — Two juveniles have been arrested by the Navasota Police Department for social media threats that resulted in the arrest of an individual and investigation that happened Monday evening.

That day, the district became aware of the threat that was made towards another student and began an investigation alongside Navasota Police Department School Resource Officers. A juvenile- was arrested and charged with terroristic threat. Despite the threat that was made, the district said a threat against the school wasn't made and no weapons were found while authorities investigated the threat.

Although arrests were made, police say other individuals may be charged at a later date as an investigation into the threats continues. There will also be an increased number of officers at school campus and extracurricular activities throughout the weekend, NPD says.

"Our primary concern is always the safety of our community, especially our schools. Any threat made against them is unacceptable and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," said Chief of Police Mike Mize in an update on the investigation into the threats. "We ask parents to remain vigilant in monitoring their children's online activity and to report any suspicious behavior or threats immediately."
