GRIMES COUNTY, Texas — Two men were taken into custody on Monday following an early morning burglary at a Dollar General in the Grimes County area.
According to the sheriff's office, a burglary alarm went off at a Dollar General in Carlos on State Highway 30 near FM 244 around 1:51 a.m. Responding officers coordinated to cover routes leaving the county to prevent the suspects from getting away.
Around 2 a.m., a deputy saw a gray Lincoln Navigator traveling east on Highway 30 at the four-way intersection of Highway 30 and Highway 90 and spotted the front-seat passenger attempting to hide himself. The deputy stopped the car because it had an "obscured rear license plate."
It was later confirmed after viewing footage from the store that the two men stopped by the deputy were the same two that had broken into the store.
The driver of the car, Terrance Benjamin, and the passenger, Kenneth Morris, both of Houston, were arrested and charged with Burglary of a Building, which is a State Jail Felony.
