Man gets 15 years, will have to register as sex offender for sexual assault of a child in Grimes County

As a part of his prison sentence, Margarito Anguiano will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

GRIMES COUNTY, Texas — A 44-year-old man will spend the next decade and a half in prison while also being required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

According to the Grimes County District Attorney's Office, a 14-year-old informed a Navasota Police School Resource Officer on Sept. 25, 2023 that Margarito Anguiano had sexually abused her.

A police investigator with the Navasota Police Department investigated the claim and learned that Anguiano had penetrated her with his fingers and made her perform oral sex on him. Anguiano was interviewed about the claim at the Navasota Police Department on Jan. 22, 2024 by a Texas DPS Agent and confessed to the first claim but denied the second one.

Anguiano pled guilty and was sentenced to 15 years in prison for a second-degree felony charge of Sexual Assault of a Child in a plea deal with Grimes County Assistant District Attorney Meagan Callaham on June 12 that also required him to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. He faced a jail time range of 2 years to 20 years.

"Investigator Mullins and Agent Zotz did great work in this investigation," Assistant District Attorney Callaham said in a press release. "Their work built a strong case, which led the defendant to plea guilty and take his punishment for victimizing a young girl."
