BRYAN, Texas — A Bryan man was sentenced to 35 years behind bars for a high-speed chase from August 2020 following a guilty plea on Nov. 17, according to the Brazos County District Attorney's Office.

On Aug. 9, 2020, Brazos County authorities were notified of a man driving recklessly and over 100 mph on Highway 6. They attempted to stop Antonio Oldham, who was 42 at the time, but he eventually drove off of Highway 6 and through the parking lots of the Post Oak Mall and the Grand Apartments.

Oldham eventually jumped a curb when he drove into a dead end part of the area, later crashing his car and then taking off on foot in an effort to avoid being arrested. He was eventually detained and multiple open alcoholic drinks were found in his car.

A field sobriety test by authorities revealed Oldham's blood alcohol concentration was 0.10, which was above the legal limit of 0.08% four hours after the initial pursuit.

Oldham's criminal history dates back to 2000, and includes multiple convictions for drunk driving, burglary of a habitation, and theft.

"The defendant chose to put many innocent lives in danger by his reckless and dangerous driving on Brazos County roads," said Assistant District Attorney Ryan Golden in a news release. "His decision to drive drunk and flee from law enforcement could have cost someone their life. This sentence reflects the serious consequences warranted by this kind of behavior."
