GRIMES COUNTY, Texas — A man that was arrested twice in a week in December of 2023 and in May of 2024 will spend the next three and a half decades in prison for various crimes he was convicted for.

According to the Grimes County District Attorney's Office, John Victor May, 55, came into contact with law enforcement on Dec. 21, 2023 after a man in the Iola area called authorities about an argument and a gunshot going off. When the deputies that were investigating the call responded to County Road 172 and realized that May had a felony warrant out of Gaines County on the Texas-New Mexico border, he was arrested. He was also found with meth in his pants pocket.

May posted bond for his Dec. 21, 2023 arrest, but was stopped just four days after once again on Christmas Day by a Grimes County Sheriff's Deputy for drug possession and tampering with evidence for trying to chew up the illegal substances he was found with. He was able to post bond once again for his arrest on Dec. 25, 2023 and wasn't arrested again until May 2024.

May's third arrest occurred on May 2, 2024, after he led Grimes County authorities on a pursuit from Grimes County into Brazos County, according to the District Attorney's Office.

May faced a prison sentence of 25 years to life in prison for prior felony convictions, which included multiple other drug-related felonies in Brazos County, but entered into a plea agreement that resulted in a 35-year sentence being handed down.

"John May has been committing crimes in Grimes County for almost twenty years," said Assistant District Attorney Tammay Thomas in a press release. "He is involved in the distribution of illegal narcotics. He is a drain on law enforcement resources in the Brazos Valley. Having him out of our community will make it a safer place to live."

Well done to Grimes County Sheriff's Deputy Joseph Frazier and Sgt. Guadalupe Santana for your respective case work on...
