Man wanted on felony warrants arrested by Grimes County officials in Brazos County

A pursuit for John Victor May began in Iola around 11:50 p.m. Tuesday night, which ended in him being arrested in the College Station area.

GRIMES COUNTY, Texas — A man wanted on felony warrants out of Grimes County was arrested by authorities following a chase that took place late Tuesday night.

According to the Grimes County Sheriff's Office, John Victor May was spotted by a Grimes County Sheriff's deputy in Iola on County Road 172 near County Road 175 in a grey Kia Sorrento. The deputy recognized May's car as it was what he was assumed to be driving from the two felony warrants that were issued for his arrest.

When the deputy got behind May's car, May took off, and the deputy tried to get him to stop for speeding, which began a pursuit across county lines.

Authorities made multiple attempts to slow and stop May as he headed into Brazos County on State Highway 30, but he avoided the officers' attempts. While he was evading authorities, May called the Brazos County Sheriff's Office, telling them that he was armed and that officers would be shot at if they got too close to him.

The chase continued onto Boonville Road, then to State Highway 6, afterwards onto North FM 2818, then onto Sandy Point Road, to OSR, then back onto State Highway 6 and down North Texas Avenue on the Bryan and College Station portions of the road. The pursuit kept going into College Station, going from William D. Fitch Parkway via State Highway 6 towards FM 2818, then to Wellborn Road, and then on University Drive from Highway 6 once again.

Officers managed to use stop sticks on May's car, but he continued even after hitting the stop sticks, nearly hitting a state trooper's car and the trooper himself.

Eventually the chase ended in a wooded area near Oakmont Circle and University Drive following a brief standoff, where May surrendered to authorities and was taken into custody.

In total, May's charges consist of:

  • Evading Arrest Detention with a Motor Vehicle, second degree felony
  • Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant, first degree felony
  • Manufacture and Delivery of a Controlled Substance from warrants, first degree felonies
  • Fraud Use/Possession of Identifying Items < 50, second degree felony
