BRYAN, Texas — A man will spend the next 16 years in jail for a Dec. 9, 2019 arrest near Wixon Valley where he was found to be engaging in illegal drug-related activities.
According to the Brazos County District Attorney's Office, John Shows was stopped by Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers in the parking lot of the Wixon Valley Country Store just outside of Bryan. A narcotics canine and handling officer performed an inspection of his car and the dog informed the handler that there were drugs.
A search of the car revealed 27.45 grams of methamphetamine hidden in a hole in the car's console. Two pipes, multiple baggies, and a scale were also found during the search.
During his trial, it was revealed that Shows had left a drug house owned by a prominent drug dealer in Bryan. His phone provided further evidence, with text messages that indicated he was engaged in the selling of methamphetamine.
His criminal past was also brought to light, which included drug possession charges and an Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon charge.
“Drugs wreak havoc on our community and destroy the lives of users and their loved ones, said Assistant District Attorneys Kara Comte and Abigail Goodman in a press release. "Those who sell those drugs profit off of that suffering and, for that, they should be punished.”
Shows received his sentence on May 9 by a Brazos County jury after he was found guilty of Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance in Penalty Group 1 in an amount greater than 4 grams but less than 200 grams.
