Bryan man sentenced for 2023 Wixon Valley storage burglary while on parole

Some of the items that John Obanion stole that day included power tools, two TVs, and a tool box.

BRYAN, Texas — A man found responsible for a 2023 Wixon Valley Mini Storage burglary was sentenced to 12 years in prison on April 10, according to the Brazos County District Attorney's Office.

John Obanion, 33, broke into multiple storage units in September 2023 in Wixon Valley using bolt cutters, running away with multiple valuable items, including power tools, two TVs, and a tool box.

Authorities were able to track Obanion down after the incident and arrested him, also finding the things he had stolen while executing warrants for his arrest and the retrieval of the stolen items. Obanion committed the crimes while on parole for a prior prison sentence for possession of a controlled substance, according to the DA's office.

Because he was on parole when he committed the crimes, Obanion's punishment was brought up to a second degree felony from a state jail felony. He pled guilty to multiple counts of Burglary of a Building on Wednesday and received his 12-year sentence afterwards.

"The defendant stole from honest, hard working people on multiple occasions," said Assistant District Attorney Rachel Porter. "This defendant has chosen to make a habit out of committing crimes in Brazos County and that behavior will not be tolerated."
