Navasota Police arrest 17-year-old following late-night incident at local store

While there were several broken doors and thousands of dollars of damage, nobody was hurt as a result of the incident.

NAVASOTA, Texas — A 17-year-old is in custody following a late-night incident in Navasota, according to authorities.

On Monday around 11 p.m., police went to investigate a shots fired and possible robbery in progress call in the 700 block of West Washington Avenue. When police arrived, a business employee told them a male was armed with a gun inside the store.

The suspect was in the store and taken into custody. 

No injuries were reported.

There were damages totaling several thousand dollars as a result of merchandise being thrown around inside the store. 

Police say the retrieved gun was reported stolen from the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Officials identified the 17-year-old suspect as Juan Luis Olivares, of Navasota. He has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a stolen item, and criminal mischief between $2,500 and $30,000.
