BRYAN, Texas — A man received a near maximum sentence from a Brazos County jury for multiple crimes he had committed since 2021.

According to the Brazos County District Attorney's Office, Jackie Joe Robinson had multiple run-ins with the law prior to his trial on Jan. 10. In one instance, on April 4, 2021, he was arrested after being discovered with roughly 3.5 grams of methamphetamine during a traffic stop. Although he was not driving the car, both Robinson and the driver were arrested by College Station Police.

Another instance of his criminal behavior was presented during the trial, when he tried to steal two pairs of Dickies pants by wearing them underneath the pants he had entered the store in and walking out without paying. A Bryan Police officer tried to pull him over to investigate the call that had been made about his actions, but Robinson took off in his car, nearly crashing it in the process. While the officer didn't pursue him, they did find his car at a home with the stolen pants.

That same month, Robinson was once again arrested by police for going over 80 mph in a 45 mph zone.

Robinson has a decade-long criminal history, including multiple convictions for a range of offenses. The offenses include eight theft convictions, two convictions for evading police, and an assault family violence conviction, among other crimes he committed while on bond.

In the end, the jury handed Robinson a nine-year sentence, one year short of the maximum sentence.

"This verdict shows that the citizens of Brazos County will not tolerate repeat offenders continuing to break the law and placing our community in danger, and neither will we at the District Attorney's Office," said Assistant District Attorneys Ryan Golden and Barrack Potter.
