HUNTSVILLE, Texas — A man is dead following an officer involved in Huntsville on Monday, Huntsville Police.
That day, officers were looking to find 43-year-old Austin Flores, who was wanted for failing to comply with sex offender registration provisions. Those provisions stemmed from a child pornography conviction and the warrant for his arrest was issued out of the 359th District Court of Montgomery County, according to Huntsville PD.
Authorities learned that Flores was staying at the Studio 6 Extended Stay located at 613 IH-45 South and made an attempt to arrest him, but he pulled a gun on the officers after they made contact with him, which led to him being shot. He was pronounced dead at the hospital after Walker County EMS took him into medical care.
Police say no officers were injured, and there is no continuing threat to the community.
Huntsville PD also says the Texas Rangers have been informed of the shooting and have taken over the investigation, and that the officers involved will be placed on administrative leave until the investigation has finished in accordance with standard protocol during officer involved shootings.
