College Station man sentenced to 51 years in eighth domestic violence conviction

Harvey Stockton was sentenced for attacking a victim in August 2022 after she broke off a relationship with him. It was his eighth domestic violence conviction.

BRYAN, Texas — A College Station man will spend the next 51 years in prison after he was sentenced for his eighth domestic violence conviction.

According to the Brazos County District Attorney's Office, Harvey Stockton was sentenced on Thursday, Sept. 26 for Assault Family Violence with a Prior Conviction. He was convicted the day prior.

In August 2022, a victim ended a relationship with Stockton and looked to give him back his things, but he instead chose to attack the victim by grabbing her from behind with both of his hands wrapped around her neck. The victim lost consciousness during the attack but was later awakened by her young daughter.

Stockton attacked the victim again a short while after the initial assault at her apartment, forcing his way in and assaulting the victim for a second time, this time in front of the victim's young daughter. While police were called by those nearby when the assault occurred, Stockton left and returned to his own apartment. EMS was able to treat the victim, but that didn't stop Stockton from reaching out to her.

While in jail, Stockton called her and told her to tell the Brazos County District Attorney's Office a story different from what had actually taken place that day.

In his trial, evidence was presented against Stockton that showed he had been convicted of assault charges seven other times prior to the incident and had been to prison on four previous occasions. He was convicted on Wednesday, Sept. 25.

During Stockton's sentencing the day after he was convicted, Judge Kyle Hawthorn said, "family violence is rampant in this world [and is] tearing apart the fabric of this country."

"The defendant will spend a significant portion of the rest of his life in prison for the life he has spent abusing women," Assistant District Attorneys Kara Comte and Rachel Porter said in a press release on Stockton's sentencing. "We are thankful that the citizens of Brazos County held Stockton accountable and took action to protect others from the defendant."
