The 19-year sentence handed to Harlan Wayne Sekaquaptewa, 56, is just one year below the maximum 20-year sentence for the crime.

THORNDALE, Milam County — A Thorndale man will spend the next 19 years in prison after pleading guilty to a second-degree felony charge of Sexual Assault of a Child.

According to the Milam County District Attorney's Office, Harlan Wayne Sekaquaptewa, 56, received his sentence from Judge John W. Youngblood in the 20th Judicial Court of Milam County and was just one year short of the maximum 20-year sentence for a second-degree felony.

"We are very pleased with the sentence handed down today by Judge Youngblood," said District Attorney Elect Brian Price in a press release. "The defendant's actions caused irreparable harm, and today's sentence reflects the serious nature of these crimes. In speaking with the victim and her family after sentencing, they were pleased with this outcome. Our thoughts and prayers will be with them as they begin to try to heal from this."
