GRIMES COUNTY, Texas — A man was sentenced to a decade in prison for failing to register as a sex offender after changing where he lived.

According to the Grimes County District Attorney's Office, Gage Stringo, 31, was arrested on Nov. 5, 2023 in Todd Mission by a Grimes County Sheriff's Deputy after the officer learned that he hadn't registered as a sex offender in the county. Stringo was previously sentenced to four years in prison in Montgomery County for Indecency with a Child and was required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life as a part of his sentence.

Under Texas law, sex offenders must inform law enforcement where they reside no later than one week after they move and change addresses. Residents in Todd Mission, where he was arrested, told authorities that were investigating Stringo revealed that he had been living at his current residence for over four years.

Further investigation into Stringo revealed that he had last registered as a sex offender with the Magnolia Police Department in April 2020. In addition to his previous conviction in Montgomery County, Stringo was also convicted in the past for failing to comply with sex offender requirements, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Stringo pled guilty before 12th District Judge David Moorman on July 12 and received his sentence after a plea agreement with Assistant District Attorney Meagan Callaham.

"Our office is tough on sex offenders who Fail to Register or Fail to Comply with sex offender requirements," said District Attorney Andria Bender in a press release. "Over the past 25 years, we have seen multiple cases where sex offenders committed new sex offenses and created new victims while out of compliance or unregistered in Grimes County. Only prison time is offered on these cases (no probation) by our prosecutors because we consider this a matter of public safety."
