BRAZOS COUNTY, Texas — A man is in custody after a high-speed chase that took place in Brazos County Monday afternoon.

According to a report from officials, Matthew Lee Dennis, 29, was speeding along Highway 6 around 5:15 p.m. that day when an officer found him going 109 mph in a 70 mph zone--nearly 40 mph over the speed limit. After slowing down to give the officer the perception that he was stopping, Dennis took off.

The chase continued to FM 2818 North until the intersection at Beck Road, when the officer used his car to push Dennis's bike over. At one point, Dennis reached a max speed of 167 mph.

The 29-year-old once again tried to shake the pursuing officer on foot, but was later caught. The officer also found that Dennis had methamphetamine, which added to the crimes he was charged with.

Dennis has been charged with Evading Arrest with a Vehicle, Drug Possession, and Reckless Driving. He is being held in the Brazos County Jail on $17,000 total bond.
