Known gang member sentenced to 18 years in prison

A known Brazos Valley drug dealer was sentenced to 18 years in prison after being caught with 11 bags of marijuana in Navasota.

GRIMES COUNTY, Texas — A confirmed gang member and Brazos Valley drug dealer was sentenced to 18 years in prison on Tuesday, October 17, after pleading guilty to several charges out of both Brazos and Grimes County.

34-year-old Jarieth Menchaca pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana, a third-degree felony, after a traffic stop in Navasota on Sept. 12, 2020, led to the discovery of 11 bags of marijuana. Officers pulled Menchaca over for speeding and performed a probable cause search where they found the marijuana that weighed a combined 10 pounds. They also found $14,000 in cash which the state seized.

While out on bond Menchaca was arrested just a couple of months later in December 2020 in the Brazos Valley for felony possession of marijuana in a drug-free zone. Then in February 2023, Menchaca was arrested again in Brazos County for an assault that left the victim with a broken back. He was charged with aggravated assault for the incident and pleaded guilty to the crime.

When faced with Judge J.D. Langley Menchaca took a plea deal and was faced with a possible extended sentence due to his previous prison sentence. He pleaded guilty in court to the various possessions of marijuana and was sentenced to 18 years in prison. He is currently sitting in Grimes County Jail awaiting his prison transfer.
