BRYAN, Texas — On Wednesday, a 46-year-old man was sentenced to half a century in prison for his involvements in drug trafficking in the Brazos Valley and Houston areas, according to the Brazos County District Attorney's Office.
In September 2019, Christopher Gutierrez's home was searched by authorities after investigators looked into him being connected to the drug trade as a "drug mule." Following the search, over two kilograms of cocaine, over $30,000 in cash, and evidence connecting him to other drug dealers were found.
Gutierrez has served three prison sentences, according to the District Attorney's Office. In 2000, he was caught and convicted on drug charges while on probation, and sentenced to 12 years in jail. After he was released, Gutierrez moved to the Harris County/Houston area, but once again found himself in criminal trouble, being convicted of Continuous Violence Against the Family and sentenced to two years in prison in 2011.
His crimes didn't stop there, as in February 2014, Gutierrez was once again arrested on drug charges in Harris County after being found with five kilograms of cocaine. He was ultimately sentenced to 25 years in prison.
It was noted that due to his criminal history, Gutierrez faced a prison sentence range between 25 and 99 years or life in prison. His guilty plea was for a Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance over 400 grams, a charge that he was hit with while on parole for drug trafficking.
"Those that profit and enrich themselves at the expense of addicts are predators and endanger our community," said Assistant District Attorney Ryan Golden in a press release. "Such conduct cannot be tolerated in Brazos County."
