Burleson County Sheriffs warn of driveway asphalt scams targeting property owners

The scammers are allegedly trying to scam property owners by offering asphalt or oil for driveways, which is really a mixture that doesn't contain asphalt.

BURLESON COUNTY, Texas — The Burleson County Sheriff's Office is warning property owners about a scam going around.

The scam reportedly involves individuals attempting to sell oil or asphalt for driveways. Sheriffs say the "asphalt" being offered is not actual asphalt, but "oil mixed with sand or other materials that do not last."

According to Burleson County Sheriffs, one elderly gentleman reported that he was going to be charged $65 a gallon to put 100 gallons of oil on his gravel driveway from one of the scammers. If he would have taken the scammers' offer, it would have cost him $6,500.

The scammers reportedly left after he told them he didn't have any money, despite their persistent efforts to get him to take up their offer.

Officials say if you feel that someone is trying to scam you to call the Sheriff's Office. The Burleson County Sheriff's Office can be reached by calling 979-567-4343.
