BRYAN, Texas — UPDATE: June 3, 2020
New details have been released in the killing of 53-year-old Loretta Aguirre of Bryan. Police said she was found dead inside a duffel bag at the Twin City Condominiums on May 29 and had suffered multiple stab wounds and trauma to her head. A cause of death has not yet been confirmed by the medical examiner.
According to a probable cause report released Wednesday, investigators said surveillance video showed 24-year-old Ike Newton came to Aguirre's home at the Twin City Condominiums just before 6 pm, carrying a duffel bag, which he allegedly stuffed under a staircase nearby before entering the apartment.
About 15 minutes later, Newton is allegedly seen on the video taking the bag from under the stairwell and entering Aguirre's apartment. Around 6:15 pm, investigators said the surveillance video showed Newton leaving Aguirre's apartment with a bottle of cleaning solution. They said he walked to the parking lot, but returns about two minutes later. Shortly after, they said Newton left the apartment in his vehicle and the call for help came in at about the same time, about 6:19 pm by a family member of Aguirre's.
Investigators said Newton was familiar to the Aguirre and had been to her home previously. Newton was asked questions about his involvement with Aguirre and he said the two of them had sex on different occasions. When shown pictures of him showing up to the apartment on May 29, police said Newton confirmed he was the man in the pictures and that the duffel bag was Aguirre's. He said he brought it to the home to return to her. Investigators said they confirmed the duffel bag in the video is the same duffel bag Aguirre was found in.
UPDATE: June 2, 2020
The Bryan Police Department arrested 24-year-old Ike Newton for murder on Tuesday in the death of 53-year-old Loretta Aguirre. Aguirre was found dead at the Twin City Condominiums Friday night.
Newton was tracked down by investigators and he was questioned at the police department. He was arrested there Tuesday. Investigators said there are no other suspects at this time. Newton's bond has been set at $300,000. The investigation is ongoing.
UPDATE: May 31, 2020
The Bryan Police Department has identified the victim as 56-year-old Loretta Aguirre. In a previous news release issued by the Bryan Police Department, Aguirre's age had been given as 53, but that has since been updated.
Aguirre was found dead in her home at the Twin City Condominiums on Friday, May 29 around 6:30 p.m. Another person, who was at the home, was not hurt, according to police.
Investigators have not released any other details at this time. They said the public is not in danger. However, you can help the police if you live in the area or were in the area on Friday from 5pm to 7pm. Friday afternoon, officers responded to a homicide at the Twin City Condominiums where they discovered a 53-year-old woman deceased in her home. Another person was in the residence at the time and was not injured.
Investigators are working on determining the manner of death and the circumstances surrounding the homicide, but this is believed to be an isolated incident. Bryan PD asserts that the general public is not in danger at this time.
