According to the Madison County District Attorney's Office, On Feb. 9, 2022, Megan Martinez was reported missing to the Madison County Sheriff's Office. As authorities began to investigate where she had gone, they learned of where she had been prior to her disappearance.
Information and video was provided to law enforcement that showed Martinez at a business in the area getting into a car that was owned and driven by Amber Jordan, currently 30. Authorities interviewed Jordan and had her car seized as part of the investigation.
While the investigation progressed, Martinez's blood was found inside Jordan's car, and in a later interview with an investigator, apologetically revealed that she had been high on drugs and believed she shot Martinez. This was confirmed by an autopsy, which revealed that Martinez died from a gunshot wound.
Jordan was sentenced on Aug. 19 by Judge J.D. Langley after pleading guilty to Murder, a first-degree felony. As part of the plea agreement she made, she will be required to serve at least half of her 50-year sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
"I am proud we were finally able to obtain justice for Megan Martinez and her family," said District Attorney Courtney Cain in a press release. "This was a senseless act of violence that will affect the Martinez family for the rest of their lives. I am grateful for the hard work by law enforcement."
