The Salvation Army to begin annual Red Kettle Campaign to raise money for the community

Last year, the organization raised $220,000 and is looking to raise a similar amount for the community this holiday season.

BRAZOS COUNTY, Texas — The Salvation Army is readying their Red Kettle Campaign for the holidays in the Bryan-College Station area, and are looking for volunteers for this year's fundraising operation.

Red Kettles will be found outside a number of businesses throughout the area on every day of the week except for Sunday, and will last through Christmas Eve. In 2022, The Salvation Army raised $220,000 and aims to raise $200,000 this holiday season.

"We are grateful for the spirit of giving in our community and for the unwavering support we receive from our generous donors and corporate partners," said Captain Luis Villanueva of The Salvation Army of Bryan-College Station in a release. "Together, we can ignite hope and support people in our community who are in the most need."

The Red Kettle Campaign is the organization's primary funding initiative, which provides programs and services for those who need it throughout the year, including shelter for those experiencing homelessness, food assistance programs, youth programs, emergency financial assistance, and disaster response.

"From its humble origins in 1891 when a Salvation Army Captain used a crab pot to collect funds in San Francisco, the Red Kettle Campaign has grown to become one of the most recognized charitable initiatives worldwide," said Villanueva in the release. "The funds raised in the Red Kettle will serve as a lifeline in our community, offering essential assistance, including nourishment, shelter, and vital social services to people during their greatest need."
