BRYAN, Texas — The Salvation Army has continuously supported a variety of different groups in Bryan and now they’re looking to help women come together and encourage more mental health talks.
The nonprofit has several programs for the community such as youth development, aid with rent and electricity, as well as a closet and food pantry.
Now, they are looking for more support for their women’s group.
Tanisha Pickney, Director of Operations explained their mission, "We started it because we don’t have a lot of women support groups in the area, and someone actually reached out about it which gave us the idea to start it and open it up to the public like I said to empower motivate and encourage focus on our mental health and self-care just a reflection and reminder that no matter what you’re going through its temporary so everything will work out.”
The goal of the group is to be able to have open conversations with women from all walks of life, creating a community of female support during times of adversity.
“It’s a safe place we welcome everyone we don’t turn anyone away we make sure to welcome them with a hug and a smile and we just treat them as if we’ve known them our whole life,” Pickney said.
They host meetings for the women’s group at the end of every month in their fellowship hall from noon until 2 p.m.
