BRAZOS COUNTY, Texas — The Salvation Army's Angel Tree program has officially started this week and they are looking to the community to assist over 2,200 kids that would otherwise not have anything for the holidays.
"Especially this time of the season that sometimes families have to choose between paying bills, giving clothes to the kids or something like that," Captain Marianne Villanueva explained. "Some families struggle during Christmas time and sometimes kids don't understand that."
The instructions are simple: each tag will have a child's age and a Christmas wish list.
"Also in the back you'll see an explanation that says how you need to wrap the toys and what day you need to bring them back and the directions of our warehouse location," Villanueva said.
If you're not able to adopt an angel, The Salvation Army will also be looking for volunteers to help distribute these toys to over 900 families on Dec. 19.
"We just want to tell the community that anything that they put for those kids will make them happy," Villanueva expressed. "That's the beauty of our angel tree--that even for our volunteers, even if they cant afford much to help other kids but it's the willingness it's the willingness of the heart to give to these kids that are in need this Christmas."
Angel trees can currently be found at Walmart, Blue Baker locations, and the Salvation Army during office hours. The H-E-B Villa Maria location in Bryan, will have an Angel Tree after Thanksgiving.
Toys need to be returned to The Salvation Army by Dec. 8 so children receive their gifts in time for Christmas.
