COLLEGE STATION, Texas — What would have been George H. W. Bush’s 100th birthday was celebrated with generations of his grandchildren coming to Aggieland and following tradition as he would have, with a number of events that he enjoyed doing.
Neil Bush, George H. W. Bush’s 69-year-old son, felt he could not miss out on the family skydiving tradition in honor of his father, who would skydive every five birthdays since 1999.
“I’m so happy to be here on Aggieland celebrating my dad’s 100th birthday jumping out of an airplane but what an amazing experience," Bush said. "I encourage anyone at any age to jump out of an airplane and experience the vigor and excitement and joy, especially when you’re doing it in honor of a great man.”
The 41st president’s life and legacy has been celebrated each year by those who have felt his impact in their own lives.
Former campaign worker, Taylor Blanton described his connection, “I go back to his first campaign in 1964, was very involved for three years and we remained friends until the time of his death and I’m still trying to repay a lot of the nice things they did for me."
Attendee, Barbara Comee recalled on her time with Bush, “I was a volunteer at his Houston office for the last 22 years of his life and it was such an honor that we he was able to share his experiences with us.”
The last day of birthday celebrations at Texas A&M’s Bush Presidential Library and Museum, is a time for friends and family to look back on the president’s love for Aggieland and its people.
“It’s very obvious why he picked Texas A&M as the destination for the bush center the bush school all the activities out here because there’s a total alignment of the qualities of life,” finalized Bush.
