COLLEGE STATION, Texas- College Station is literally rolling out a new recycling program. After testing out single stream recycling in the Emerald Forest neighborhood almost a year ago, College Station decided to expand the program to the entire city. The city hopes the the new blue bins will encourage more people to recycle. Not only can people skip separating items, they can also recycle more types of things like colored glass and cardboard.
"It's easier to recycle so we find ourselves including more things. We automatically think about whether an item is recyclable," says Katherine Kelly, who lives at Emerald Forest
Simplicity comes with price tag. Upgrading the system costs the city more than 60 cents a month per household. Right now, there are no changes to the sanitation fee on people's utility bills.Although, that may change. The first day for pick up is January 18th.
