Crunch The Cost: Is it money-savvy to buy that big-ticket item?

A local rent-to-own manager shared with KAGS how now is the best time to take advantage of tax return season to find a plan that tells your financial story.

BRYAN, Texas — After many people faced financial hardships because of the pandemic, things like a new washing machine or family couch may appear to be out of your budget.

We took a deep dive to find out ways for you to afford that big ticket item this year, and if it even makes sense financially to do so.

If you walk into Buddy’s Home Furnishings in Bryan, a rent-to-own furniture store and family business, you'll come across people that are willing to help you find something that's right for you, even if your plans require more financial strategy.

"No matter what, if you're financially stable, if you’re not, we have a spot for you. That’s the beauty of it," said Buddy's general manager Daylon Luckey. "So there's really not a savvy time to not do this. Over here, we make it simple as all get out, especially during tax return season.”

Money experts have also stated that certain manufacturer items like deep freezers, home heating systems, and refrigerators go through a turnover period in the fall, making them cheaper to buy than in other times of the year.

At Buddy’s, all you need is your tax return to start your journey to affording items that tell your financial story.

Such as financing a family couch that would costs you over $1,900 at a major retailer like Ashley's Home Furniture. However, it's just $35 a week over a six month period at Buddy's and then it's all yours.

“If you have your tax return ready and available, that six months would get you the same cash price which basically means we pay the cash price, which means that we pay the cash price as it is, that’s the price it’s gonna be as long as it’s paid before six months,“ Luckey explained.

While federal reserve interest rates rise, Luckey at Buddy’s is offering people more financial freedom through a payment plan that mirrors your financial situation.

Just bring your tax return, driver’s license, phone number, and at least four references.

“We do help the customer, to the bitter end, I mean stuff does happens," said Luckey. "I’m in the spot where I'm able to make the call to help instead of just choose to help.”

From flat screens, to dryers, to bed sets and tables; they’ve got all your home needs that will fit in your budget. Just ask for Luckey.

So yes, you can afford that big ticket item this year, and now is the perfect time to look into your options.

Happy shopping!
