BRAZOS COUNTY, Texas — Brazos County Commissioner Nancy Berry gifted $100,000 to establish the Nancy Berry Leadership Scholarship fund that will benefit Blinn College students that attended high school in Brazos County.
Through a Tuesday news release Berry said, "Blinn is a steppingstone for a bright future. We need to enhance the capability of young leaders and give them a leg up. I just want to support and encourage them.”
Her public service started in 2004 when she was elected as councilwoman for the City of College Station. She then went on to serve as mayor through 2016. She is currently Chair of the Blinn College Foundation Board of Directors.
Berry has served on the boards for various organizations, is an active volunteer in the community, and has been recognized for her contributions to public.
Within Texas, Berry has previously served on the boards of the United Ways of Texas and the Texas Commission on the Arts. In the past, she was active with organizations including the Brazos County YMCA, the Boys & Girls Club of Brazos County, and the advisory boards of Ronald McDonald Charities.
Through the same news release, Blinn College Foundation Vice Chair Sam Sommer said, "Commissioner Berry’s contributions to Brazos County are innumerable and with the establishment of this scholarship she cements her commitment to education and supporting the students at Blinn College. We truly are grateful for her support and know her generosity will make a meaningful impact on students for years to come.”
Students that are awarded the scholarship must submit an essay to The Blinn Foundation showcasing their leadership skills and goals.
