College Station Utilities bringing changes to your electricity bill

It will take about 21 month to upgrade meters for all customers.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — If you live in College Station, you’re about to see some changes in your utility bills.

Beginning this month, College Station Utilities will be installing advanced electric meters for all its customers in the city.

“We’re exchanging the existing, from mechanical analog style meters on residences and companies to a newer digital meter that transmits the information by RF to central database," said CSU Operational Technologies Superintendent Tom Jordan.

This means customers will be receiving an even more detailed bill with information on your day-to-day usage.

“Customers are going to be notified by postcards a few weeks in advance, so they have an opportunity to schedule that. That’s super important. From a consumer standpoint, you’re looking for that notification. It can be anywhere between now and next year at this time. If you want to schedule, then schedule it," said Jordan.

It will take about 21 months since the contract was signed in February to complete the transition for all College Station clients.

“Then the bill detail will be available when we finish everybody. Then we’ll release that billing website. Until then, most residents won’t notice a huge change,” said Jordan.

College Station Utilities said it is one of the last ones in the state to be implementing these meters, and it plans to be done by the end of next year.

College Station Utilities said it takes less than five minutes per exchange and should not disrupt your daily routines.
