Howdy's Pizza in College Station closing its doors

The company said the closure comes due to the "nightmare scenario" with COVID-19, staff shortages and supply chain problems.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — A popular College Station restaurant is closing its doors permanently and said it was due to the "nightmare scenario" of COVID-19, staffing and supply chain shortages impacting the Brazos Valley area.

Howdy's Texas Grill'd Pizza announced on social media they are shutting down on December 5. They will be open from now until Sunday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and use up the products they currently have. They said if they run out before December 5, they will close up shop early.

The pizza company said it opened its first restaurant in 2016 with the hopes of making the Bryan-College Station area known for "Texas-style Grilled Pizza." The business model included creating pizza around Texas Food.

Howdy's has been voted "Best Pizza" for the last five years of The Eagle's Reader's Choice Awards. The company has also been serving up slices at Kyle Field for the last two years.

The company said due to COVID-19 protocols like lockdowns, staff quarantines and enhanced cleaning measures adding to staff shortages and the ability to get the supplies needed to continue its operations have all contributed to the struggles of a small business trying to make it in a pandemic.

However, the company hopes this is not the last it makes on the community. The company said after the first of the year, it will restructure its business model and hopes to reopen by the fall of 2022 in a new location.

Howdy's encourages you to use your gift cards if you have them and is asking the community to make a push and support other small businesses throughout the Brazos Valley, especially the restaurants.
