BELLMEAD, Texas — Twenty one McLennan County dogs have been rescued from a home thanks to the actions of a Bellmead Animal Control officer and a rescue shelter, according to the Bellmead Police Department.
According to the department, Animal Control Officer Randi swept into action in late December to rescue the dogs after the death of their owner, making arrangements and helping Texas Humane Heroes, a no-kill, non-profit organization, bring the puppies to their shelter.
A few of the dogs were suffering from minor infections while many were malnourished, according to Christian Long, the Director of Communications at Texas Humane Heroes.
"Our prerogative is getting them all healthy," said Long. "Just on the second day, they showed remarkable improvements. They were more interested in socializing and they're starting to figure out people just want to give them attention."
Texas Humane Heroes said the pups are warm and safe and they will all be evaluated, fixed and brought up to date on vaccinations before being ready for adoption.

Some of the dogs will be listed for adoption as soon as this weekend.
"The dogs have all lived with each other and that would indicate they're all going to be okay with other dogs," said Long. "They're all figuring out their own personalities and now it's just a matter of someone who is willing to give some time, love and attention to them."
The Bellmead Police Department thanked Randi for her hard work and dedication.
