Salado High head football coach Tom Westerberg announces retirement

Westerberg coached high school football for 37 years and won four state titles in his career.

SALADO, Texas — Salado High School head football coach Tom Westerberg is retiring after a long and successful career, Westerberg confirmed to 6 News on Wednesday, Jan. 10.

2023 marked Westerberg's second season with the Eagles, his own alma mater.

Westerberg coached high school football for 37 years, winning four state titles during his time at Allen, in 2008, 2012, 2013 and 2014.

According to Dave Campbell's Texas Football, Westerberg has a career record of 191-50, having coached at Allen, Barbers Hill and Salado. He was also an assistant coach for Garland High School's state championship in 1998.

Westerberg also served as Athletic Director at Hays ISD in 2021 before heading back to his native Salado to coach once again.

According to Dave Campbell's Texas Football, Westerberg's retirement is effective Jan. 31.
