COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Cooper Allen was named the winner of the 23rd Brazos Valley Youth Concerto Competition. Allen was selected out of five finalists, that performed a live concert performance in front of a panel of judges.

Every year, the Brazos Valley Symphony invites local music students to compete to win a scholarship and perform at the annual Children's Concert at Rudder Auditorium.

Allen, who plays the bass  clarinet, was selected as the competition winner by the  Judges Dr. Philip Alexander, Eka Gogichashvili and  Daniel Pardo.

"Cooper's performance of Geraldine (Denny) Green’s Bass Clarinet Concerto,  Mvt.    1    took first place on Sunday," a news release from the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra said.  "Mr. Cooper is taught by Jon Seale, Michael Dixon, and Marla Goodwin."

The feat landed Cooper to be featured as a soloist in the upcoming Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra Children’s Concert scheduled for Feb. 5.
