COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Texas A&M forward Josh Nebo wasn't always a basketball player.

"In middle school I played a lot of football," Nebo, a junior, says. "I skateboarded a little bit too."

Nebo hit a major growth spurt in high school and that's when he started to take his work on the hardwood seriously.

"Josh had a good senior year, but was a guy who was overlooked by a lot of people," Texas A&M head coach Billy Kennedy says.

That's how the Houston native ended in Loretta, Pennsylvania, playing two season at St. Francis University. Coach Kennedy may have overlooked him out of high school but he wasn't going to miss his shot on the Texan again. Kennedy convinced Nebo to transfer to Aggieland last season to help anchor his defense.

"Just how good he was defensively. I didn't know how good offensively he'd become," Kennedy says.

Nebo had to sit out the 2017-2018 season due to NCAA transfer rules, but now he's back with a vengeance. Nebo posted a career high 21 points against Alabama last Saturday and helped the Aggies pick up a crucial road win in conference play.

"He made every shot around the basket," Kennedy says. "He ran the floor, blocked shots, did a lot of things and put it all together in one game."

If you think you've seen the best of Nebo, you better think again. The big man is only getting more comfortable in his role by the game and it's only a matter of time before he puts it all together.

"I feel like I have another level to get to," Nebo says. "Just being consistent in my effort and everything I do on the court, whether it's rebounding, blocking shots or scoring.

Nebo and the Aggies are back at home this Saturday against Missouri. Tip-off is at 2:30.
