COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Texas A&M’s first travel trip during the indoor portion of the track and field season takes them to the Texas Tech Classic where the nationally-ranked Aggies compete in the Sports Performance Center against a field of 19 schools.

Updated national rating index issued by USTFCCCA this week have Texas A&M women at No. 2 with the Aggie men at No. 10. The Texas Tech Classic will include nine men’s teams and eight women’s teams ranked among the top 30 schools in the national rating index.

“The competition level steps up each weekend now,” said Texas A&M head coach Pat Henry. “This is part of the process. There will be some great teams in the meet this weekend. So in just about every event we get to line up against somebody who may be a little bit better.

“Part of this process is having our team compete somewhere besides our home venue. They get to leave College Station and experience another facility, so that adds another element especially for the younger athletes on our team. The challenge is to still do the things that will make you successful.”

The men’s field will have the following ranked programs – 1. Texas Tech; 2. Florida; 3. Florida State; 10. Texas A&M; 16 Baylor; 22. USC; 26. Sam Houston State; 27. TCU; 29. Arizona. The women’s field will have the following ranked programs – 2. Texas A&M; 5. Florida State; 6. Florida; 7. USC; 16. Texas Tech; 24. Miami; 25. North Carolina State; 27. Baylor.

Other teams competing in the Texas Tech Classic include Abilene Christian, Arizona State, Louisiana-Monroe, Northern Arizona, North Texas, TCU, Texas Southern, Tulane and UT Arlington.

Friday’s session starts at 3 p.m. with field events and 5 p.m. with running events. Saturday’s session begins at 10 a.m. with field events and noon with running events. A multi-event competition will be held on Thursday, but doesn’t involve any Aggie athletes.

Coverage of the meet will be available through flotrack.org for a subscription fee while live results will be available through pttiming.com.

Field events on Friday include the weight throw, triple jump and B division of the men’s pole vault. On the track, the Aggies will be involved in the distance medley relay, 60m, 60m hurdles, and 400m.

On Saturday, Texas A&M will contest the shot put, long jump, high jump and pole vault in field events, while racing in the mile, 800m, 200m, 3,000m and 4x400 relay on the track.
