VERIFY: Proposed "41" speed limit on George Bush

Ways to memorialize former President Bush are still on a lot of minds in the Brazos Valley. The former President was laid to rest at the Bush Library on Thursday. Now, George Bush Drive, the road leading to that library--- may be included as one long memorial itself.

VERIFY QUESTION:

In a tweet, a man is asking the City of College Station to change the speed limit along George Bush Drive to 41 miles per hour. A heartfelt gesture to remember a man who had a heart to serve.

But, would this change be possible?

We VERIFY.

VERIFY SOURCE:

To VERIFY this, we spoke to the City of College Station.

VERIFY PROCESS:

The City of College Station said that a speed limit is based on how the public feels driving down a road. They take the data of how fast 85% of drivers go and that data then becomes the speed limit. But, it has to be increments of five miles per hour.

VERIFY CONCLUSION:

After speaking with the City of College Station, we can VERIFY that this would not be doable.

Even though a 41 mph speed limit leading to the Bush Library would be a special way to honor the president, the speed limit would most likely be rounded off to 40 mph.
