The week-long camp gives high schoolers a hands-on introduction to computer programming, cybersecurity and engineering design.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Programming, light sensors and raspberry pies? It may not be as tasty as it sounds but at the TEEX Cyber Innovation camp, it’s all the craze.

The week-long camp gives high schoolers a hands-on introduction to computer programming, cybersecurity and engineering design.

Learning the basics of coding programs to operate hardware and construct different gadgets.

For some, this is their first year the camp, and for others not their first rodeo, but still a chance to develop their skills.

Getting to learn from instructors with years of programming and computer science knowledge.

“They can actually touch the computer, understand how it works, program it at a lower level and actually interact with the physical world,” said Romero.

Though the majority of the classroom is comprised of boys, the camp gives an equal chance for girls to in on the action and show that anyone is capable

“A lot of people think that girls just have to be doing the calmer and easier jobs. But we can do hard jobs to, and I think that it’s a chance to inspire other girls in the world that they can do it,” said A&M Consolidated Freshman Jamie Siegel.
