Local area residents recover from sudden severe thunderstorm

Local residents recover from hail and damaging rain following Sunday's severe thunderstorm.

College Station, and parts of Bryan, experienced some damaging weather this week as a severe thunderstorm made its way across Burleson and Brazos County.

Along with strong winds and heavy rain, some areas also experienced hail ranging from quarter size up to as big as a golf ball.

One resident, Hallye Reed, who is a Freshman at Texas A&M, left her work near University Drive and found her car window had been smashed by the hail.

In addition to the hail damage, the inside of the vehicle also had some water damage.

"You hear this stuff on the news and when it happens to you, you're like what the heck," said Reed.

Like many others in the Brazos Valley, Reed is now in the cleanup phase.

While this can seem like a daunting experience, insurance companies say there is no need to panic.

Apparently, damage from hail is most likely covered by your car insurance.

However, they also say it is important when submitting claims to make sure you don't just list minor damage.

It's important to remember that the cost of your repairs should exceed the cost of your deductible.

Last, but certainly not least, do not forget to document the damage by taking lots of pictures and videos.
