COLLEGE STATION, TX – The MSC Bethancourt hosted guest speaker, Judy Smith, the famous crisis management expert and real life inspiration for the hit ABC drama Scandal, on Thursday, February 8 in Rudder Auditorium.
The presentation was a glimpse into the life and career of one of Washington's most influential individuals, who has worked on some of this countries most historic and sensational events of our time.
From the Iran Contra investigation, and the Los Angeles riots to the President Clinton scandal involving Monica Lewinsky Smith has truly seen it all.
During the program, Smith participated in a moderated discussion about her experiences and her background followed my a Q&A session with the audience.
Smith explained the intricacies of what she does as a fixer and how she identifies a crisis.
"A crisis is something that effects your brand or reputation," said Smith.
"We all make mistakes or have missteps. What's important is that you always learn something from those missteps."
Smith also had some key words of advice for the audience on how to find success after college:
1. Do not limit yourself by focusing on the money. It is often those small jobs where you learn the most.
2. Know what is important to you and what you are passionate about.
3. Give some real thought to what you brand will be and to focus on that message.
4. And lastly, a little common sense is always helpful.
