CSISD Randomized Drug Testing Policy to start this October

College Station ISD will soon be conducting random drug testing for all high school students involved in extracurricular activities as well as all those who wish to park on campus.

College Station ISD will soon be conducting random drug testing for all high school students involved in extracurricular activities as well as all those who wish to park on campus.

Extracurricular activities include any school-sponsored activity in which the student will compete, travel or represent CSISD. Parents also have the option to opt in their student if they don't met one of the two criteria where the testing is required.

The reasons for implementing the drug test policy include student health and safety, to serve as a deterrent, to offer the students a credible means to resist peer pressure as well as to provide a source of information to parents.

Tests will be conducted by a certified drug-testing lab using urine samples. The test will look for synthetic marijuana, marijuana, cocaine, amphetamine, opiates, phencyclidine, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, methadone, propoxyphene as well as alcohol.

Results of the tests are reported to a designated campus administrator who will then contact the parents/guardians of any student who receives a positive test.

The first positive test will have the student suspended from their activity and/or parking for 15 calendar days. A second positive test will mean being suspended for 30 days and a third positive test will result in the student being suspended for a year.

The questions and answers from the panel the district held tonight will be online HERE in October. For more detail about CSISD drug testing policy go HERE.
