The Blinn College women’s basketball team (5-7, 0-3) competed hard against No. 2 Trinity Valley Community College before the Lady Cardinals pulled away to win, 78-72, on Saturday afternoon.

“I am proud of our competitiveness and our shot making tonight against a great team on the road,” said Jeff Jenkins, Blinn head coach. “It was our best game of the year by far and it is a shame that it had to end in a loss. I will now be able to get some sleep over the holidays knowing we have a chance to win games in the second semester.”

Blinn’s offense was strong as the Buccaneers totaled 12 three-pointers and four players reached double-digit points. Alexus Brigham led with 14 points, Missy Archie followed with 12 and Imani Wimbish-Gay and Kristine Ezimako each tallied 11 points. Julia Janczak was next with nine points, while Mariel Wade followed with eight points.

Trinity Valley opened the game with a 14-9 lead in the first quarter before Blinn evened the score 33-33 at the half. The Lady Cardinals pulled ahead 53-48 in the third quarter and were able to claim the victory in the final quarter.

The Buccaneers will face Hill College to open the McLennan Community College Classic in Waco when they return from the holiday break on Wednesday, Jan. 2, at noon.
