A&M star Chennedy Carter named to Lieberman Award watch list

Texas A&M sophomore Chennedy Carter was named to the watch list for the 2019 Nancy Lieberman Award, presented by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association to the top point guard in women's college basketball.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- Texas A&M sophomore Chennedy Carter was named to the watch list for the 2019 Nancy Lieberman Award, presented by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association to the top point guard in women's college basketball.

Carter, who was the unanimous National Freshman of the Year in 2017-18, was one of 20 players named to the watch list. The Mansfield, Texas native averaged 22.7 points per game, the most among Division I freshmen, and increased her mark to 31.3 points during the NCAA Tournament—the fourth-highest mark in tournament history.

Carter posted three of the five highest single-game point totals in school history—including a school-record 46 points at USC, which included the game-winning basket and a school-tournament-record 37 against DePaul, highlighted by the game-winning 3-pointer with 3.2 seconds with.

The winner of the 2019 Lieberman Award will be revealed on an ESPN platform during the 2019 Women's Final Four in Tampa, Florida. The watch list of 20 players for the 2019 Lieberman Award will be narrowed to just 10 by mid-February. In March, five finalists will be presented to Ms. Lieberman and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. Throughout the entire process, the list will be fluid and players can play themselves on or off the list until the five finalists are selected.
