Huntsville Police Department Receives $3000 Grant

  • Huntsville Police Department Receives $3000 Grant

Today the Huntsville Police department received a $3,000 grant from TxDOT for their efforts to get drunk drivers off the roads.

As part of the impaired driver mobilization incentive, the Huntsville police arrested 18 people for DWI over a two week period. They were one of thirty departments across the state to receive the grant.

The award didn't require police to meet a quota of drunk drivers arrested.

"We're like anybody else. Budgets are tight," said Huntsville Chief of Police Kevin Lunsford. "This $3000 can go towards equipment that we need such as portable breath testers--things that will help us with DWI enforcement so we're just  gonna use it to further our cause and try to keep the citizens safe."
