  • Trial For Former Madisonville Police Officer To Be Moved

MADISONVILLE - A former Madisonville police officer accused of framing his ex-wife on drug charges will not stand trial in Madison County.

Judge Donald Kraemer in the 12th Judicial District granted the request from the state and the defense to move the trial to a new location.

The judge's staff told the Madisonville Meteor they could not find an impartial jury in the county.

He has not ruled yet when or where the trial will now take place.

Jeffrey Covington was charged last year with using an informant to plant drugs on his ex-wife's car and then tipping off a DPS trooper to make a traffic stop.

He reportedly was trying to gain custody of his children.

Laura Covington was arrested but never faced charges.

She is now suing her ex-husband, the Madisonville Police Department, the City of Madisonville and Madison County for $5 million.
